Kolkata: Celebrating 58 years of unwavering service to the garment sector in West Bengal, the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association proudly organized the 55th Garment Fair and B2B Expo. This three-day event (January 8th, 9th, & 10th, 2024) took place at the Eco Park Fairgrounds, Kolkata. With participation from 900 National and International brands, the expo is anticipated to drive business transactions amounting to Rs. 850-900 Crore in wholesale deals.
Recognizing the significant contribution of this initiative to the state’s economy, the event garnered the attention of the State Government and leading business entities. The inauguration was graced by Sri. Sujit Bose, Minister of State for Fire, Govt. of WB, along with esteemed personalities like Sri. Nirmal Jain, Founder of Evergreen Hosiery Industry, Sri. Hari Kishan Rathi, President of WBGMDA, and several other notable figures.
Since its inception, the association has diligently organized garment fairs and B2B exhibitions, fostering a modern, competitive garment industry, especially in the MSME sector. This initiative aims to position the country as a robust hub in the global textile supply chain. The WBGMDA – Buyer Sellers Meet has emerged as a pivotal rendezvous for reputable companies in the eastern region, contributing significantly to job creation and bolstering the GDP.
Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support received over the years, Sri. Hari Kishan Rathi, President of West Bengal Garment Manufacturers & Dealers Association, acknowledged the industry’s predecessors for paving the way for future opportunities.
Highlighting the event’s success, Sri. Devendra Baid, Hony. Secretary of West Bengal Garment Manufacturers & Dealers Association, emphasized the continuous prosperity achieved by the buyers and sellers meetings over five decades in eastern India. This meet, recognized as the biggest Readymade Garment Meet in Eastern India, has resiliently supported the region’s readymade garment industry despite economic uncertainties.
Notably, the meet has garnered recognition from the MSME department, establishing its unique significance in this sector.
About WBGMDA: Established in 1962, the West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Traders Association is a leading organization representing the ready-made garment industry in East India. Affiliated with the Bharat Chamber of Commerce, the association actively supports the development of the ready-made garment industry. Governed by a democratic structure comprising a core committee, committee members, and co-opted members, the association strives tirelessly for the welfare of its 500+ members.
The association’s activities include organizing Garment Buyers and Sellers Meets biannually, conducting seminars, facilitating members’ understanding of government policies, organizing philanthropic initiatives like blood donation and health checkups, and assisting in arbitration matters.
