UNGA Recognizes India’s Success in Digital Empowerment

India is being praised in the United Nations General Assembly i.e. UNGA. President Dennis Francis said- Farmers of India, who never had any connection with the banking system, are now doing all their transactions on smartphones. India has pulled 80 crore people out of poverty. This is not seen in many parts of the Global South.

People’s lives can be changed through technology-innovation

President Dennis Francis further said in the United Nations General Assembly – Many positive changes have taken place in India. During an address at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, he said – People’s lives can be changed through technology and innovation. During this, he put forth his point by giving the example of India. There is a need to eliminate the gap between the developed and developing countries of the world. There is a big difference between the Global North and the Global South, but instead of bridging this gap, we are increasing it further.

The world wants to learn from India’s digital revolution

The foundation of the digital revolution in India was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. This scheme is named Digital India Mission. Its objective is to make India a knowledge-based economy and transform it into a digitally empowered society through digital services, digital access, digital inclusion and digital empowerment. Along with the strengthening of the economic system through India’s Digital India Mission, there has also been an unprecedented change in the governance and citizen services system. In the last 9 years, there has been a significant increase in digital payment transactions. Along with this, UPI has strengthened its hold in every village as the most preferred payment mode.

The central government is engaged in making the Digital Mission successful

To make the Digital Mission successful, the Government of India launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan’ and through this, about 7.17 crore people in the rural area were provided digital literacy by 30 September 2023. Similarly, the ‘Government e-Marketplace’ scheme was launched to promote digitalization in government procurement. By 30 September 2023, transactions worth about Rs 5.23 lakh crore had been done through this platform.
