In our country, women have to go through many restrictions during periods, ban on touching food items, ban on going to the temple and are also asked to stay away from the kitchen. With changing times, people’s thinking has changed a lot, but even today, in many places, Aditi Gupta came forward as a social entrepreneur so that women do not have to face such evils and they can become aware. She started a campaign to make people aware by starting ‘Menstrupedia Comic’, but let’s know how it started and how Aditi’s own life experiences were responsible for it.
Who is Aditi Gupta of Menstrupedia Comic?
Aditi is from Garhwa, Jharkhand, since childhood she saw how women were treated like untouchables during periods. Women were not even aware of sanitary napkins, Aditi started her periods at the age of 12 but got sanitary napkins at the age of 15.
Made the college project into a business model
After graduating in engineering, Aditi did post graduation in New Media Design from “National Institute of Design Ahmedabad”. Aditi thought of using her talent and education for the society. That is why she started “Menstrupedia Comic” along with her husband Tuhin Patel, although she started this project for her college thesis project but later she made it her work. Tuhin and Aditi met while studying at National Institute of Design.
To start this comic, Aditi first did research about menstruation by meeting doctors, experts and girls themselves. In this comic, Aditi talked about periods and the evils associated with them and tried to make girls aware. She distributed these comics to girls in schools.
Today these comics are read in 25 countries around the world
Gradually she took her work even further and started writing blogs along with comic books. She also published her comics on different websites. Today, these comics made by Aditi are available in 25 countries of the world in 18 languages and are making people aware by talking about issues related to women’s health.
Today Aditi has become the world’s “Most Innovative Menstrual Educator” and social entrepreneur. She has made more than 13 million girls aware. In the year 2012, she started “Menstrupedia Comic” and by the year 2014, she was included in the list of “30 Under 30” of Forbes India. Today, the comics she has created are used by NGOs across the country.
Aditi’s success has become an inspiration for many girls today.
