NCPCR and Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini Unite to Tackle Mental Health Concerns Among India’s Schoolchildren

  • National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is addressing the concern of “Mental Well-being of School Going Children in India” in collaboration with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini.

 National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) is organising a one-day consultation program in partnership with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, titled “Mental Well-being of School Going Children in India.” The event is scheduled for December 11, 2023, at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini, Keshav Srushti, Bhayander (West), Thane.

Mental health and well-being are integral to the holistic development of children, influencing their decision-making, relationship-building, and overall socio-economic contributions. Recognizing the fundamental human rights associated with mental well-being, this event aims to address challenges faced by school-going children, such as disorders, psychosocial disabilities, and states of distress and impairment.

The National Education Policy 2020 underscores the significance of prioritizing mental health within the education system. Measures such as providing nutritious meals, incorporating well-trained social workers and counselors, and promoting community involvement are key aspects emphasized in the policy.

Aligned with these principles, NCPCR is proactively initiating a one-day consultation at Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini in Mumbai. The event aims to convene diverse stakeholders to collectively tackle crucial issues related to the mental health of children and adolescents. The objective is to cultivate a unified approach that safeguards the well-being of students within the education system. Eminent figures, including the Chairperson and Member Secretary from NCPCR, the Member Secretary from NCTE, and faculty from NCERT, alongside over 100 participants from the education sector, are anticipated to engage in this program.

About NCPCR: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) a statutory body constituted under section (3) of CPCR Act, 2005 and working under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, has the mandate to ensure that all laws, policies, programmes, and administrative mechanisms are in consonance with the Child rights perspective as enshrined in the Constitution of India and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

About Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini: Since its establishment in 1982, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini has been dedicatedly involved in nurturing leadership. The institute has successfully trained over two lakh individuals, including elected representatives, leaders of voluntary organizations, participants from cooperatives and educational institutions, government officials, and social workers. The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has acknowledged Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini’s distinctive profile and significant contributions to leadership training by awarding it special consultative status as an NGO. In addition to its training initiatives, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini is actively engaged in research studies and public awareness activities.
